Potato Flower (Solanum tuberosum)
The Potato Flower Model is an 8x life-size, 2-part model of a potato flower. In nature, the Potato flower branches usually divide into two stalks, each with multiple flowers, the model displays one of these flowers. The gramopetalous corolla’s 5 points are radially symmetrical, marked by yellow lines that equally transverse & divide.
The 5 stamen sets are fused to form a conical stamina and detach, along with the corolla, to reveal the superior pistil. Finished with powder coated paint on the stamina and stem, the model features life-like textures, with yellow powder paint to represent pollen and even exchange surfaces when touched.
The flower consists of 5 petals, 5 sepals and 5 sets of stamen, a naturally occurring construct which falls into Fibonacci’s sequence.
