Waltenhofen's Pendulum

The Waltenhofen's Pendulum is designed to demonstrate the effects of braking and eddy currents. A stainless steel pendulum swings back and forth between two electromagnet plates while the current is switched off. When the current is turned on, the pendulum comes to an immediate stop. The different plates come in various shapes with and without slots, demonstrating the effects of braking and how the time taken to stop is affected by the surface area of the pendulum plates.
