Working with temperatures this low can cause serious damage to your hands and arms, so you'll want to know that you can trust what these gauntlet gloves say. In order to do that, these gauntlet gloves have been tested to EN standards EN 388 and EN 511, measuring their resistance to mechanical threats and the cold. They achieved the following scores:
Hazard Level of Resistance Abrasion Resistance Level 2 Cut Resistance N/A Tear Resistance Level 2 Puncture Resistance N/A EN 511
Hazard Level of Resistance Contact Cold Level 2 Convective Cold Level 2 Water Permeability Level 1 Technical Specifications Shoulder length protects the arms against splashes of liquid nitrogen and other hazards Dextrous design to ensure you are in total control Waterproof construction for submerging in liquid Soft interior lining for optimal comfort Available in a range of sizes to suit all users Applications of the Cryogenic Gauntlet Gloves
The Cryogenic Waterproof Gauntlet Gloves are designed for the extreme cold, specifically for tasks such as liquid nitrogen handling where you need resistance to water too. Recommended tasks include:
Cold store work Cryogenics Freezer work Lab work
Please note that these gauntlet gloves are designed for handling extremely cold materials. We wouldn't recommend them for simple, cold outdoor work. However, if your work means that you have to handle items that are far below freezing, then these gauntlet gloves are ideal.
What Are the Main Uses of the Frosters Glove Range?
One of the main uses of the Frosters range is to protect against spills and splashes of cryogenic materials, including liquid nitrogen. This can occur when pouring, or just generally working with, ultra-cold cryogenic materials.
Please note that these gloves are not suitable for immersion in liquid nitrogen. What Temperatures Can They Protect Against?
These gauntlet gloves are designed for people who work with materials that are far below freezing. This can include cryogenics, dry ice handling, bottle handling and scientific work where you can expect to experiment with freezing materials. Although there is no real answer, these gauntlet gloves are proven to prove suitable when handling solid materials that are between -120°C and -190°C without them becoming stiff.
How Waterproof Are the Frosters Cryogenic Gauntlet Gloves?
The Cryogenic Gauntlet Gloves are designed to offer superb insulation, with their superb synthetic fibre outer layer offering total water resistance. This is particularly ideal for cryogenics and liquid nitrogen handling, as you will be expected to come into contact with extremely cold substances that may be in liquid form. If this is the case, then these gloves will completely protect your upper arms, lower arms, hands, wrists and fingers from injury.

Scilabub Gloves are designed for handling items that have been submerged in liquid nitrogen. This includes in vaccine research, where Prime Minister Boris Johnson was seen visiting a vaccine research facility in September 2020. You can see scientists use Scilabub to protect their hands towards the end of the below video.
VIDEO How Do The Frosters Cryogenic Gauntlet Gloves Work?
The Scilabub Gauntlet Gloves feature a special outer layer that is designed to resist water, ideal for handling freezing items submerged in substances such as liquid nitrogen. However, the middle layer features a special polyolefin and polyester micro fibre that has twice the effectiveness of a normal thermal fibre. This then helps to minimise heat transfer without the material being too thick to handle materials.
What Does the Frosters Gauntlet Gloves Fit Feel Like?
The Frosters Gauntlet Gloves offer superb protection from the fingertips to the shoulders. However, it isn't just protection that they offer, with a soft liner ensuring excellent comfort from the start of your work until the end. The soft liner is warm around your fingers, ensuring that you can work continually without having to worry about hand fatigue starting to set in.
Will I Retain Dexterity in Freezing Conditions?
When handling freezing cold materials you can expect to want to retain dexterity, as this helps to retain grip for yourself while minimising any risk. These Gauntlet Gloves are designed to stay flexible even when handling materials that are lower than -100°C, helping to ensure that you can do your job with more productivity and more impact.
