Wimshurst Machine

The Wimshurst Machine is a historical experiment made for the generation of safe, high DC potentials, making it suitable for numerous experiments in the area of electrostatics. The machine features a hand crank operation and belt drive, adjustable spark gap and two high-voltage capacitors (Leyden jars). 

Two discs rotate in opposite directions, leading to an imbalance of charges and, eventually, an electric spark will jump across the gap. This makes for an exciting and interesting demonstration of electrostatics, perfect for the classroom.
