Electromagnetic Launch Apparatus
The Electromagnetic Launch Apparatus is designed to impart uniform and reproducible launch momentum which used along with the catapult assembled from a fork and rubber band from with the Air Track Experiment Kit enables gliders to be consistently launched to conduct experiments on frictionless linear motion.
The launch apparatus features an iron core, a solenoid coil and an armature. The iron core attaches to the end of the air track. It provides a mount for the coil, which the gliders connect to via the armature and catapult.
The tensed rubber band in the catapult is released when the current is interrupted (done by the Switch Box), imparting energy to the glider and launching it.
